THE DANGER OF RELAXING GOD'S LAW
(Image from: Fulfilling the Law (slideshare.net))
(Matthew 5:17-19)
Our world today is running a
serious risk. We want to relax everything. We want to do everything the easy
way. We want to abolish some positive laws because we want things done our own
way. We fear being challenged by the law that tells us to get it right. We
prefer to silence the prophetic voice that points out to us the consequences of
our deeds both good and bad. We will rather wish to hear that there's no law,
do as you like.
Jesus corrects such a very ugly
impression in the Gospel reading of today. Let us therefore stop the
unnecessary relaxation of laws that has caused us more harm than good. Let the
Church uphold the discipline that should control the faithful. Let the
Government be just and fair to all and stop relaxing the laws when the sacred
cows are involved. Let the parents stop deceiving their children by making
serious matters light; they should be firm in correcting for their moral and
spiritual good.
Our Lord Jesus Christ is a lover
of discipline. Let us therefore imbibe the discipline of this Lenten season so
as to be as mature, holy and pure as God wants us to be. Let us shun all forms
of laziness and self deceit in our spiritual life. Let us be religious about
keeping the commandments of God and of the Church. Let us stop giving ourselves
reasons that will allow us to break the laws of God. Let us find more reasons
to willingly listen to the prophetic voice of the ministers of God and live our
lives in keeping with the will of God all the days of our lives.
LET US PRAY
Thank You Jesus for teaching us
about the danger and risk of relaxing the commandments of God. We have failed
by interpreting Your laws to suit us. Give us the grace to observe Your
ordinances and teach others by our words and actions to do so. May Your law
bring us to salvation in You through Christ our Lord. Amen
God bless your Wednesday (3rd
Week of Lent)
