Reflection on the Gospel of Thursday of the 2nd Week of Advent by Rev Fr Julian O Ekeh

THE FORCE NEEDED TO TAKE THE KINGDOM

(Matthew 11:11-15)

As we await and pray for the coming of God's kingdom in our Lord Jesus Christ, we are biblically disposed to make Him the King of kings and Lord of lords.

The gospel of today tells us about the violence the kingdom of God had suffered down through the ages and invites us to be violent and not passive in taking back this kingdom.

The kingdom of God is within us. The violent forces attacking this kingdom from all angles flow from within the heart of man. The plots to violate the divine order, the greed, the envy, the jealousy, the unjust and inhuman treatments, the lack of reverence for the sacred etc. All these are the violent forces with which the devil kicks against the kingdom of God.

We are encouraged therefore to be violent and insistent on taking and being part of the kingdom of God. We've got to open our spiritual eyes to realize the methods and the forces with which the devil is taking the kingdom of God in and through us.

Be on the watch against the various terrors and terrorists the enemy of your salvation has pitched around you to pull the kingdom of God down through you. Be violent to attack these forces. You really have to.

He comes with the terrors of sickness, of misfortunes, of poverty, of family problems, of economic instability, of insecurity. The enemy comes to fight the kingdom with false prophecies, with betrayals, with love for money, with quick wealth etc.

Let us rise against anything that doesn't give glory to God for they are indeed the age long weapons of the devil. Let us work with Christ and make Him to come daily in our affairs to establish his kingdom of everlasting happiness on the foundation of virtues demolishing to faulty foundations of evil.

Let us pray

God Almighty Father, we really want to be forceful enough to combat the enemies of your kingdom. Unfortunately, the attractions and the tempting forces from the camp of our enemy will not allow us to think straight. We pray for the force of the Holy Spirit to be able to insist on the right thing and do it always for the sake of your kingdom through Christ our Lord. Amen

God bless your Thursday (Advent, Week 2)
