MAN: THE WONDER OF GOD
(Matthew 11:16-19)
Man throws God into an ocean of
wonderment. He plunges God into confusion. He puts endless questions in the
mouth of God. God thinks about the best way to deal with man. They yielded
little fruit. This act of making divine effort a futile venture surprises and
pains the Lord in the heart.
Man has ever refused to live a
life of appreciation since his creation. He was given a garden, the only way he
paid back was by eating the forbidden fruit. He was given a woman and he blamed
God. The woman was given Adam she chose the serpent. He was given a paradise to
live in obedience but was sent away from it by disobedience. He began to
wander, a wandering that made God begin to wonder: How do I save Him? Let no
one harm him.
Many prophets were sent to bring
him back including John the Baptist, man called them names and killed them. God
fashioned bearers of his message in different forms they were all of them
abused and turned down.
John the Baptist chose not to eat
nor drink but they called him demon. Jesus came eating and drinking and was
called a glutton. Man became 'emetaghi emeta' (unappeasable, ingrate)
Man became 'Ozu nwa bekee' (a nag, difficult to partner with).
Our Lord today is like a loving
Father who has done everything humanly possible to give his beloved son a good
life and future, but the worthless son turns down every good opportunity
offered to him.
Are we going to also waste this
golden opportunity God gives us this year to listen to the divine pipes and
dance "Oyoyoo" for His coming, to listen to hear the wailing
in the desert and repent of our sins?
May God help us. He really
wonders what we enjoy outside him. May we hear the voice singing wisdom and
ringing repentance into our ears.
Let us pray
I have made you wonder many times
Oh Lord. Help me not to live a difficult and stubborn life from this day. May I
console you and give you reasons not to regret the risk of coming to save me.
Am not going to waste away through Christ our Lord.Amen.
God bless your Friday (Advent
Week 2)
