Reflection on the Gospel of Monday Week 28 Year I & II

THE CALL TO REPENTANCE

( Luke 11:29-32)

Jesus calls for a change of attitude in today's Gospel reading. He cites example with the people of Nineveh and the queen of the south. There should not be any waste of time in responding to this important call.

From the queen of the south, Jesus wants us to learn how to hear and to heed the voice of wisdom. The wisdom that lies in heeding the voice calling us to turn to the Lord. From the people of Nineveh, on the other hand, Jesus wants us not to take for granted the various calls to repentance that we hear on daily basis.

Jesus called his generation an evil one.  Why? Because they sought for signs and wonders. And he adds: No sign shall be given to it except the sign of Jonah.

What will Jesus call our own generation? Are we not a people who expect God to do His part for us, to bless us, to favour us, to lift us high, to do XYZ for us but we do nothing for God? We do not care about what God expects from us. We do not change our attitude towards our neighbour.

God calls upon us today to evaluate the type of life we live if it is the type of life He has called us to live. Jesus wants us to learn from those who made use of the opportunities granted them to change for good.

What is stopping you from repenting? Why do you harden your heart in your sin? Why are you obstinate in evil? Why are you not perturbed by what people are going through in your hands? Why have you chosen not to allow the word of God touch your conscience? Why are you not feeling what God feels for you?

The opportunity God gives us to live is for us to live better. Living better is being repentant. Living better is loving God. Indeed, it is living out the reason for which God created us.

May God help us to appreciate His love for us by hearkening to the call He makes on us to repent.

Let us pray with the Church

I love you Jesus, my love above all things. I repent with my whole heart of having offended you. Never permit me to separate myself from you again. Grant that I may love you always, and do with me whatever is your will. Amen

God bless your Monday
